Alcoholism is a major public health problem that is detrimental to the affected individuals as well as to society as a whole. It has been popular belief that alcohol dependence can be controlled through will power, skill building, and support. Therefore, psychosocial therapies have historically been the most utilized treatments for alcohol use disorders.(1).
